A photographic survey of every building in Solihull High Street was made in 1949 by the photographer G B Mason. It shows a street full of independent traders such as G C Waddams. There were a few chain stores, including still familiar names such as Boots and FW Woolworth and others such as Maypole (a grocers) which no longer exist.
