As well as providing images for our Educational Images section of the website the Historic England Archive also provides other education services. Here you can find out more about what's available.
Aerial photograph packs for schools
The Historic England Archive is now using its amazing collection of aerial photographs to produce Local History packs, containing aerial photographs and old maps for teachers to use in the classroom. Originally produced for schools as part of our Heritage Schools programme, we are now delighted to be able to offer this service to all schools.
Two types of pack are available:
Local History Pack A
Bespoke Packs - £134 + VAT:
These packs are focused on a place of your choosing - such as your school or town centre. You choose the location and we'll search the Archive and hand-pick the best images and maps to show how that area has changed.
Each type of pack will contain:
- A minimum of five aerial photographs from the 20th century, showing the major changes within the chosen area over that time, printed at A3
- A minimum of four historic maps dating back to the late 19th century, printed at A3
- Digital copies of the maps and aerial photographs
Local History Pack B
Training Packs - £30 + VAT:
Whenever we deliver a Teacher Training session on using our Local History Packs a copy of that pack will become available. Each type of pack will contain:
- A minimum of five aerial photographs from the 20th century, showing the major changes within the chosen area over that time, printed at A3
- A minimum of four historic maps dating back to the late 19th century, printed at A3
- Digital copies of the maps and aerial photographs
The table below lists the packs currently available. You may also like to watch our training film on Using Aerial Photographs.
