28 Gas Street Lamps, Throop Road, Bournemouth

These 27 gas street lights are situated in the conservation area of Throop. there is also one in the town centre. They are still operated by a clockwork mechanism to turn on the gas. They were installed in 1902 to 1910 and made from cast iron by the Ringwood and Pokesdown Foundries. They were apparently installed by the local electricity company who were converting gas lamps in Bournemouth to electricity. Preumably they did not complete the conversion.
