Ashness Bridge, Borrowdale, Cumbria

This packhorse bridge dates from the 18th century when goods were transported on the backs of horses. It has a 19th century parapet and was widened in the 20th century. The view of this bridge and the countryside beyond has come to represent Lakeland scenery and appears often in books and on postcards.
