Balfour Monument, St Johns Gardens, Liverpool, Merseyside

This monument commemorates Alexander Balfour who died in 1886. The monument was put up in 1889. The sculptor was A. Bruce Joy and the bronze figure was cast by the founders H. Young and Co. He was a shipowner and philanthropist. He was joint founder of the Seaman’s Orphanage, Seaman’s Institute, Sailor’s Home and the YMCA in Mount Pleasant.
