Beacon Hill, Bulford, Wiltshire

This aerial view shows the remains of trenches that date from World War One. They were used for training soldiers in trench warfare. They lie close to the present day Bulford Camp. During World War One part of the camp was called Sling Camp. It was occupied by New Zealand soldiers of the Australia New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC). Several other areas of practice trenches can still be picked out in the area but only as cropmarks or faint outlines. This part of Salisbury Plain has traditionally been used by the military and is still used by them today.
