Christchurch Priory, Christchurch, Dorset

A church was founded on this site during the Saxon period. This was demolished circa 1100 in order to make way for a new church building. This building became the priory church of the Augustinian priory founded by Baldwin de Redvers around 1150. It was finally completed in 1234. It has served as the parish church since 1540 following the Dissolution of the priory in 1539. The image clearly shows that only about half of the original priory church was used as the parish church. The rest of it is a ruin.
