Council Houses, Clay Lane, Doncaster, South Yorkshire

This pair of semi-detached houses were built in 1867. They were designed by J Butterfield and built for Doncaster Corporation. They were numbers 3 and 4 and were built as a pair with numbers 1 and 2. They are listed for their historic interest, as a very early example of council housing. They were built well before what is regarded as the first true council housing which came after the 1890 Housing Act.
