Crich Stand Tower, Crich, Derbyshire

This war memorial tower was completed in 1923. It was designed by Lieutenant Colonel A W Brewill to commemorate the fallen members of The Sherwood Foresters (Nottingham and Derbyshire Regiment). In 1934, the tower was fitted with a 28" searchlight, with a luminous range of 38 miles. The tower is the latest in a series of structures put up on this prominent site. A limestone tower was put up in 1788 by Francis Hurt and taken down in 1849. This tower was replaced by a circular tower in 1851. It was struck by lightening and demolished in 1922.
