Cromer Windmill, Mill Lane, Ardeley, Hertfordshire

Cromer Windmill is the only surviving post mill in the county and dates from about 1720. It is on an artificial mound that was the site of a medieval manorial windmill (c1222). It was badly damaged in a gale in 1926 and ceased working shortly afterwards. The mill was restored between 1966 and 1969 and is now the property of the Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust.
