Cross House, Southampton, Southampton

This was probably the base of an old boundary cross. From the 1500s at least it was used as a circular stone shelter with seats. These were for people waiting to be ferried across the river Itchen. It is mentioned as a weather house in 1577. In 1634 it was repaired and is dated 1634 with the initials of Peter Clungeon, the Mayor of the time.
