Deal Castle, Deal, Kent
Deal Castle was built as part of Henry VIII's scheme to defend the south coast against invasion and stands close to the beach. It was completed in 1540, providing platforms (seen here) to mount the new artillery and firearms. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
