Derwentcote Steel Furnace, Consett, Durham

The steel furnace at Derwentcote, which resembles a bottle-kiln in shape, produced high-grade iron and steel products. The Derwent area was rich in furnaces of this kind, and renowned for its products in the 17th and 18th centuries. The picture shows an internal view of the works.
