Dick, Kerr & Company, Strand Road, Preston, Lancashire
A seaplane (probably N4259) standing on blocks at the premises of Dick, Kerr & Company. In the background other planes can be seen under construction. The photograph was taken for Dick, Kerr and Company, a locomotive and tramcar manufacturer. During the First World War the company made aircraft designed by the Seaplane Experimental Station, based at the Royal Naval Air Station in Felixstowe. It was one of many businesses who had to adapt their work to support the war effort.
