Entrance to Deal Castle, Deal, Kent

The original, iron-studded oak door lies at the end of a short passageway with murder holes in the ceiling above. Deal Castle was finished in 1540 as part of Henry VIII's scheme to defend the south coast against invasion. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
