This house was originally built for Josiah Wedgwood in c1770. He was born in 1730, into a family of potters. Josiah went on to become one of towns greatest potters. He vastly imporoved the quality of everyday pottery. He also ensured that his workmen and their families could live in decent housing close to the factory. When he died here on 3rd January 1795 he left a thriving business and a fortune to his children.
