This is a photograph from an album at Osborne House titled the "Ryde Album". It shows Queen Victoria and her family in the grounds of Osborne House in 1898. The people in the photograph are (left to right)Leopold of Battenberg, Princess Aribert of Anhalt, Duchess of York with Prince Edward and Princess Mary (on knee), Princess Margaret of Connaught, Prince Alexander of Battenberg (on ground), Duke of York with Prince Albert, Queen Victoria, Prince Arthur of Connaught, Ducness of Connaught, Princess Patricia of Connaught (on ground), Princess Henry of Battenberg, Princess Ena of Battenberg, Princess Helena Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein, Prince Maurice of Battenberg. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne House as a private retreat and greatly extended it. The present house developed in the Italianate style between 1845-51 and was designed by Prince Albert and Thomas Cubitt. This property is now in the care of English Heritage (2010). Find out more.
