Former Bluecoat School, Westminster, Greater London

The Bluecoat School was founded in 1688 and this building in Caxton Street was put up in 1709. It was rebuilt here for William Greene owner of the Stag Brewery. It was a charity school and there is a figure of a Blue Coat Scholar above the doorway in his blue uniform. There was just one large schoolroom inside. The building was bought by the National Trust in 1954 and used as their shop.
