Former Board School, Misterton, Nottinghamshire

This building was originally the village school. It is inscribed 'Board Schools, 1872'. The first state system of primary schools was set up by the 1870 Education Act. This lead to a massive increase in the number of schools. Previously most schools had been set up by churches. Where churches were not providing enough school places, School Boards were set up to provide schools. These school were funded by household rates.
