Former Gas Company Showroom, Sutton, Greater London

This showroom and stores was built in 1929-30 for the Croydon Gas Company in Woodcote Road. It was designed by A Douglas Robinson in Spanish style. Gas was originally supplied to towns by private companies. The coat of arms of Croydon Gas Company was above the large corner entrance. The Gas Act of 1948 nationalised the supply of gas and the 1,064 local gas companies were reorganised into twelve Area Gas Boards. The building was later used as a carpet showrooms.
