Former Plaza Cinema, Mersey Square, Stockport, Greater Manchester

This cinema was designed in 1929 by W Thornley. It opened to the public on the 6th of October 1932. It is a remarkable and lavish example of the Art Deco style of architecture, with many of its motifs taken directly from the 1925 Paris Exhibition. It is also an exceptionally complete example of a 1930s 'super' cinema.
