Formerly Tichborne Down House Hospital, New Alresford, Hampshire

This building was built as a workhouse by the Poor Law Union in 1853-6. It was known as the Alresford Union workhouse. It was designed to house 280 inmates. The Union authorised £5,350 for its building. An inspectors report from 1866 suggests that it was an efficient and well run workhouse. The inmates seem to have been well treated.
