Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, West Midlands

In 1888 John Boyd Dunlop made a tyre for his son's tricycle by wrapping lengths of rubber around the wheels and inflating this with a football pump, and so invented the pneumatic tyre. Three years later Dunlop's company was able to build this impressive factory.
