Frickley Colliery, South Elmsall, West Yorkshire

By the early 20th century the coalfields of Yorkshire were being extensively mined. The coal was considered to be of good quality, but the depth of the seams was great. Frickley Colliery was one of several sunk at about this time. It was extended in 1923 but demolished in 1993.
