Goodrich Castle, Herefordshire

Standing high on a natural defensive promontory, Goodrich Castle occupies a site close to an ancient fording place of the River Wye. The steep 100ft escarpment on the south side of the Wye combined with a natural valley and a deep, rock-cut moat provide a formidable defence for the 13th century structure. This property is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
