Goonhavern County Primary School, Perranzabuloe, Cornwall

This was originally a Board school built in 1876 in a Gothic style. It was built on an E-shaped plan. It had a large central schoolroom (for the top class) with a folding screen so that it could be linked to the room on its right. There was an entrance hall and cloakroom left of the schoolroom. There were also 2 projecting sections each containing two rooms with a folding screen between them. Until the 1950s there was a gallery in the front right-hand room. Galleries were a series of broad steps on which the infants stood for their lessons. Board Schools were built by local School Boards (committees) formed after the 1870 Education Act.
