The Whitehaven Colliery Co sank Haig Pit between 1914 and 1918. It was the last deep coal mine to have been worked in the Cumbrian coalfield. The colliery closed in 1986 and many of the buildings were subsequently demolished; those seen in this view have been 'scheduled'.
