Hartwell House, Hartwell, Buckinghamshire
The core of the present house was constructed in the early 17th century and extensions were added in the 18th century. The house was first mentioned in the Norman period when it was given to the illegitimate son of William the Conqueror. Between 1809 and 1813 King Louis XVIII, the French Court and Government in exile were based here. Since 2008 the house has been owned by The National Trust. It is now run as an hotel.
