Hayes Barton, East Buddleigh, Devon

An interior view of the living room at Hayes Barton. Hayes Barton was the 16th century home of the Raleigh family, including Sir Walter Raleigh. The firplace was clearly used for cooking. The kettle and a large cooking pot are hanging above the fire. There is a large bench seat or settle to the left. The high back would have kept draughts off the backs of people sitting there.
