Herbert Hospital, Alumhurst Road, Bournmouth

The hospital was built in l865-7 in Gothic style. It was originally the Herbert Memorial Convalescent Home where people would spend time recovering after an illness or operation. Convalescent homes are very common in seaside towns. The sea air was believed to be very healthy and good for invalids.
