Holborn Viaduct, Farringdon Road, City of London, Greater London

A view showing Holborn Viaduct passing over Farringdon Street with horse drawn vehicles travelling beneath the bridge. The Holborn Viaduct was built in 1863-9, by William Haywood who held the position of Surveyor of the City. The bridge has three spans and is of cast iron supported on granite piers. It is has elaborate decorations including pairs of statues and winged lions and the City arms on each balustrade.
