Hungerford Almshouses, Corsham, Wiltshire

An Edwardian family standing in front of the north-east corner of the Hungerford Almshouses in Corsham, as seen from the junction of Lacock Road and Pound Pill. The Almshouses, Warden's House and free school built in 1668, at the request of Lady Margaret Hungerford of Corsham Court. At this time there was no national welfare system for the poor and most children did not go to school.
