Keep to Lewes Castle, Castle Gate, Lewes, East Sussex

This keep was built in 1100 for William de Warenne. The two turrets were added in the 13th century by John de Warenne, the 7th Earl of Surrey. The keep stands on a raised motte or mound constructed with chalk blocks. This is one of only 2 castles that have 2 mottes.
