Landguard Fort, near Felixstowe, Suffolk

Aerial view reconstruction drawing of the fort in c1900. The Landguard Fort defends Harwich Harbour. The Fort has been remodelled several times. Of the surviving structure, the rectangular layout with angle bastions dates from around 1720 and was strengthened by the addition of the eliptical fortification in 1875. This property is now in the care of English Heritage (2010) and managed by Landguard Fort Trust. Read detailed archaeological description.
