Leeds Castle, Broomfield, Kent

The castle dates from the mid 12th centuryand has had many alterations. It was partly rebuilt in 1822. It was a motte-and-bailey castle with a shell keep and had a moat from at least 1272 with two islands. It was owned from 1114 to the mid 1260s by the de Crevecoeur family and became a Royal possession around 1272/1278.
