Lifeboat Station, Hastings, East Sussex

A view from the beach showing waves crashing against the lifeboat house. Fishing boats are drawn up on the beach on the right in front of the unique local style buildings used to provide weather-proof stores for fishing gear such as nets. The shingle beach is known as The Stade (the old Saxon term meaning "landing place"). In 1858 the RNLI established a lifeboat station in Hastings. A new boathouse was built for the sum of £650 in 1882. In 1995 the latest boathouse was built providing housing for a Mersey class lifeboat, launching tractor and D class lifeboat.
