Livesley Memorial Hall, Catford, Greater London

This recreation hall was built in 1911 by S.Y.Shoubridge for the employees of the South Suburban Gas Company. It was put up as a memorial for Sir George Livesey (1834-1908) who was the Chairman of the company. Much of the building work was carried out by the Gas Company itself including making the bricks. George Thomas Livesey introduced many technical improvements in the design of gas holders. He was the builder of the Greenwich Gas Works in 1883. The building contained a large hall with a raised stage, a billiard room and a reading room.
