Ludgershall Cross, High Street, Ludgershall, Wiltshire

This monument is part of a medieval standing cross. Some crosses were used by travelling priests to hold open air services, others as market crosses or boundary markers. This cross is surrounded by ornamental iron railings that were put up to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. The cross is in the care of English Heritage (2011). Read more.
