Machine Shop at Royal Ordnance Factory, Ordnance Road, Enfield, Greater London

This building was a small arms (hand guns) factory. It was built 1854-58 for the Board of Ordnance. The machine shop was the largest and most important of the new buildings built on the Royal Small Arms site in 1854-58. It was built as a result of a movement to centralize and improve small arms production following the poor performance of British made guns in the early stages of the Crimean War (1853-56).
