Marsh Farm House, Kirk's Yard, Nottingham

Marsh Farm House is a timber framed house and probably dates back to Tudor times. This picture was taken in 1923, shortly before much of this area was demolished. This was because it an area of slums with high rates of disease, such as cholera. Reports by the medical officer of health, and under the Housing Act 1890, the Red Lion Street Unhealthy Area was established. The old houses were replaced with some of the first purpose built council houses.
