Mechanics Institute, Marsden, West Yorkshire

This Mechanics Institute was built in 1860 by John Hogg of Halifax. Mechanics Institutes were set up to provide an opportunity for unschooled workers to gain some form of education. All the teachers at the institute were volunteers and it would have been run by charitable donations.
