Monument to the disaster at Easington Colliery, Durham

The Easington Colliery was opened in 1899 and remained operational until 1993. On 29th May 1951 the mine experienced an underground explosion in the High Main seam, resulting in the deaths of 89 miners. The tragedy is commemorated in Easington graveyard.
