Moreton Hall, Moreton Morrell, Warwickshire

A close-up view of Moreton Hall under construction in 1908. It shows the stone building being put up within a frame of scaffolding. The architect W H Romaine-Walker designed Moreton Hall in the Palladian style. It is said that it was inspired by Wilton House near Salisbury. The house was built for the Eton-educated American Charles Tuller Garland, son of the co-founder of New York's National City Bank. This photograph was taken by Philip Eugene Debenham and is likely to have been commissioned by either the architect Romain-Walker or the owner Charles Tuller Garland. After WW2 the house became part of Warwickshire College as its centre for Agriculture and suffered a major fire in 2008.
