Morris Memorial, Kelmscott, Oxfordshire

This is the tomb of William Morris (1834-96) and his family in Kelmscott churchyard. He promoted the Arts & Crafts style of art and architecture. The memorial was designed by Philip Webb. It has been suggested that the design of the tomb is based on the ridge-back type of Viking funerary monument, but Webb may have derived his inspiration from a 17th century tomb also in the churchyard.
