Newholm Windmill, Newholm-Cum-Dunsley, North Yorkshire

A man and two boys standing at the entrance to Newholm Mill in Guisborough Road. The mill is part of the farm complex and was used for grinding cereals. It has a very distinctive point to its cap. It is a tower mill. These mills could turn so that they always caught the wind. This photograph is one of a series taken by Thomas Watson. They were used by the Victoria County History to illustrate the ‘History of the County of York North Riding: Volume 2’, published in 1923.
