North Pier, Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear

A view along the North Pier in Tynemouth. The photograph shows the pier being built with a mobile crane already in place. It was completed in 1895. Within a few years a great storm destroyed part of the pier and it had to be rebuilt. The rebuild was finished in 1909. The waves show how strong structures such as quays and piers had to be.
