Oxclose Farm, Willington, Durham

Barn, byres, loose-boxes and gin-gang in a planned farm lay-out. They all date from the mid 19th century. The gin-gang or horse gin was housed in a circular building. It would have had a wheel or 'gin' that was turned by a horse walking round in a circle. A drive shaft leading from the gin would have a belt pulley on the end used to turn any sort of machinery.
