Pates Almshouses, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

These almshouses were built in 1811. They replaced an earlier set of almshouses on the High Street. They were originally founded in 1574 by Richard Pate. Pate was an important and respected man in the 16th century. He was probably born in Cheltenham and later moved to Gloucester. He represented Gloucester in Parliament on a number of occasions. He made many other charitable donations.
