Pillbox, Brinkburn, Northumberland

A pillbox is a small, often concrete, building. It is designed for soldiers to use to fire a range of weapons from. They are usually strategically placed to cover a weak or vulnerable point in a system of defences. This one was built in 1940. It is part of a system of defences known as the Coquet Line, as it ran along side the river Coquet. This was to protect against German invasion during World War Two.
