Porthleven Salt Cellars, Salt Cellar Hill, Porthlevan, Cornwall

This building was built in 1816 as a salt warehouse for Francis Pool. Salt was very important for preserving food. In this area salting was associated with the fishing industry. Fish cellars were common and were used for salting pilchards.
